Three steps

From setup to the first alert

  1. Step 1: Save your fields

    Drop a pin, use GPS, or enter an address to add the exact locations your teams practice and play.

  2. Step 2: We monitor conditions

    During each field's alert schedule, strikes are checked about every 5 minutes whenever storms are expected nearby, and about every 3 minutes once lightning is within 20 miles. Heat, UV, and NWS alerts refresh every 10 minutes.

  3. Step 3: You get alerted

    Each coach receives only the hazard alerts they've opted into, for the fields they cover. Create your alert schedule the way you want.

How a lightning alert works

One storm, start to finish

At 4:10 a strike 13 miles away sends Lightning nearby: be ready to clear the field. At 4:12 a strike 6 miles away, inside the radius, sends Clear the field now and starts a 30 minute wait, so the field stays closed until at least 4:42. The storm moves off, and strikes outside the radius don't restart the wait. At 4:42 the all clear arrives.

    WBGT, heat index, UV, and chance of rain for the next 12 hours, 24 hours, or 5 days, with the hours thunderstorms are expected clearly marked.

  • Alert schedules

    Choose the days and times each field is watched, so alerts arrive during practice and stay quiet when nobody is there.

  • Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets

    Your fields at a glance on your iPhone Home Screen, for one field or up to 8 at once. Lock Screen widgets show lightning, WBGT, heat index, or UV for the field you pick.

    Live WBGT for each field, checked against your state's heat chart where Sports Safe has one, with an alert when it climbs into a stricter band.

    Recent strikes out to 35 miles plotted over radar, with the clear-the-field radius you set for each field (6 to 15 miles) drawn around it.

  • Critical alerts on iPhone

    Once you allow them, clear-the-field lightning alerts sound even with silent mode or Do Not Disturb on.
